I have a lot of customers who are wanting to be able recover data from their child’s cell phone. With all the news lately about teens being convicted of child pornography I find it to be a valid worry. In the case of MOST phones when you teen takes pictures with their camera it is usually stored on a Mini or Micro SD card. Now you can look and see if your teens phone came with a USB cable for your computer or not.
If it did you should be able to plug it in and mount the phone as a drive on the computer just like you would a thumb drive. If it did not come with one then you are going to want to get a card reader for the type of SD card the phone has. You can take the phone to Best Buy and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Once you have the phone or card mounted as a drive on your machine you can use any photo harvesting software out there to get the photos off.

A USB adapter is the easiest thing to use. Depending on the type of interface you have, IDE, SATA, etc. you may need an adapter to get it into a desktop computer as a slave.

Hello, you really provide good information on technology here. My hardrive on my laptop crashed and I need to recover some or all of my data. If I’m not mistaken, can’t you remove the laptop hardrive and install into a external hardrive case and use it as a slave drive that way? Thanks

I wish I would have found your company before I sent my micro SD card to Germany. It took 25 days to arrive to the company in Germany. I am not sure if the company checked the SD card with software only or if they have an extensive process like your company. However, they told me my data was not retrievable the same day they received it. I am now waiting for the return of the micro SD card as I sent money to have it returned. I tried roughly 8 to 10 different recovery software programs before I sent the card out to Germany myself. None of them worked. I have been trying to do anything I could to retrieve the data contained on the card.
My question is this:
Can your company retrieve data from a micro SD card which was used in a cell phone to take pictures and video, but has been accidently low level formatted by a canon powershot a 560? At least this is what I think happened. The reason I say that is because when I put the cell phone micro SD card in the camera the camera did not recognize the pictures to start with….then the accidental low level format occurred.
Another question:
Can your company retrieve pictures from a bashed cell phone which I also would like to have recovered? I threw the phone and it broke in to a few pieces. Thank you so much for your time
Oh, I forgot one other thing! I had one other question:
I had read that a utility disk could aid in a recovery when an item has been low level formatted. This is what I read which I do not understand…just another hopeful thought.
“Although a “Low Level” format is not the common way to format a drive, it does completely erase the drive’s data together with the directory information. Since all data sectors are overwritten during a low level format, recovery is impossible using the software recovery. A low level format generally requires a utility disk, available from the drive manufacturer (or another third party vendor), and it is not the standard mode of format used under the Windows OS environment.”

That Cannon camera format is 0 written to the entire card. No one can get that back. I wish I had better news.
The low level format they are talking about is for OLDER hard drives. There is no data left on the card because what once contained your data now contains zeros.
